What does calling a 1300 number cost?

A local-call rate from landlines anywhere in Australia; most current mobile plans include 1300 calls, but timed charges still exist on some pre-paid plans. The answering business pays the balance of the call cost.

Risk assessment

Used by everything from utilities to two-person businesses, and by far the most common callback number in delivery, telco and government impersonation scams — a spoofed 1300 caller ID looks official. Never trust the displayed number alone: if a call 'from' a 1300 number asks for payments, codes or remote access, hang up and dial the organisation's published number yourself.
