About Who Called Australia

Who Called Australia is a free reverse phone lookup for Australian numbers. It is built and run by OmegaIT Limited, a small company that operates the same kind of service for nine other countries — from the United Kingdom to the Netherlands. Each site is written for its own country, in its own language, on its own numbering plan; what they share is the method described on this page.

What we publish

Every structurally valid Australian number has a page that combines three layers: official register data (which area code, mobile prefix or smartnumber family the number belongs to and which carrier holds the range, from the numbering register operated for the ACMA), community verdicts (anonymous scam / nuisance / safe ratings and moderated written reports) and cost guidance under the national numbering plan. Around that sit the reference hubs — area codes and mobile prefixes, town-level numbering areas, carriers, 1300, 1800 and 13 numbers — and the guides.

Editorial approach

The guides and hub texts are written by the Who Called Australia editorial team and checked against primary sources: the Telecommunications Numbering Plan, ACMA publications, Scamwatch and the Do Not Call Register. We write about number ranges, carriers, call costs and scam patterns — never about people. Each guide shows its publication date and, when we revise it substantively, an update date. We do not accept paid placements in editorial content; the site is funded by clearly labelled advertising on editorial pages only, never on register-data pages.

Where the data comes from

Numbering data is replicated daily from the Australian numbering register at thenumberingsystem.com.au, imported transactionally with an as-of date that appears on every page that uses it. A range allocation names its registered holder; because of number porting an individual line may operate on another network today, and caller ID can be spoofed — the pages say so wherever it matters. Our methodology page lists every source and processing step.

Community reports and moderation

Ratings and reports are submitted anonymously, rate-limited and deduplicated, and every written report is reviewed before publication. We remove personal data about private individuals, threats and abuse, and anything that reads as a defamation attempt rather than an experience with a call. A number page is only offered to search engines once it carries reports of substance; a rating alone is not content. Community verdicts remain the personal opinions of the people who posted them, and the pages label them as such.

Corrections and removals

If a report about your number is wrong, if you believe content should be removed, or if you want to know what we hold about a number, use the removal and disputes form. Requests go into an internal queue and every decision is logged; confirmed removals are permanent and survive data imports. Errors in the official register itself have to be corrected with the register operator — our replica follows their publication. For anything else, see the contact page.
